From Survival Mode to Sustainable Business
THE CHALLENGE
Lady Sunshine is a floral design studio in the mountains of Colorado. After five years in business, they had built something real — creative authority, a strong referral network, and a genuine reputation for exceptional weddings. What they hadn’t built was the operational foundation to match.
There was no repeatable bid process for wedding engagements. No pricing framework grounded in actual costs. And a long-term commercial lease quietly draining cash the business couldn’t afford to lose. Lady Sunshine wasn’t struggling because the work wasn’t good enough. They were struggling because the business hadn’t been built as a system.
HOW WE WORKED THROUGH IT
141 Strategic Advisors began with a full financial download and built Lady Sunshine’s first-ever annual operating forecast — establishing real cost visibility as the foundation for every decision that followed.
With that baseline in place, we tackled the lease. Using the operating model to define what the business could sustainably carry, we modeled alternative locations and helped structure an exit from the existing commitment. Resolving the lease unlocked a larger strategic shift: moving from a mixed retail-and-florals model to a florals-only approach anchored in subscription arrangements with individuals and commercial partners like restaurants and hotels.
We built the frameworks to support that transition — defining subscription targets needed to offset retail revenue, and a pricing model with target margins tied directly to real costs. A monthly scorecard gave the team a live performance tracking tool so results were managed in real time, not discovered after the fact.
The final piece was the wedding bid process. We mapped it end-to-end, identified where time was being lost, and built a dedicated bid model that standardized intake through delivery. Bids now go out faster, margins are embedded from the start, and every quote is grounded in the actual cost of the work.
"We weren’t telling them what to do. We were building the tools that let them see clearly enough to decide for themselves."
WHAT CHANGED
For the first time, Lady Sunshine could see the real cost of delivery across every product. Wasted movements surfaced and were eliminated. Metrics like time-to-delivery — previously invisible — became trackable, and tracking them sharpened pricing further.
The shift to florals-only and subscriptions gave the business a cleaner economic story. Revenue became more predictable. The team developed a clear framework for evaluating which engagements to take on. Net margin became a shared reference point, and that discipline has driven improved profitability across every product line.
Most meaningfully, Maddie and the team are no longer just thinking about what they need to execute this week to get to Friday. They’re thinking about what they want the business to look like — and they have the tools to build toward it.
In Their Own Words
“Working with 141 Strategic Advisors has completely shifted the way I approach my business. They helped me truly understand my numbers, make more confident financial decisions, and structure my floral business in a way that feels both sustainable and genuinely profitable. Because of their guidance, I’m able to lean into my creative strengths with clarity and confidence while leading the business forward in a much healthier way.”

WHY IT MATTERS
Lady Sunshine’s story is more common than most founders admit. Strong craft. Real demand. Loyal customers. But no system to let any of it compound. What changed for Maddie and her team wasn’t their talent — it was their ability to see the business clearly and make decisions from that foundation rather than around it.
That’s the work. Not replacing what makes a business special. Building the structure that lets it endure.
